Volunteer with SaathiLife.Care

Be the Saathi a senior looks forward to.

Saathi means companion. Across India, older people are waiting for someone to ask about their day. If you have a little time and a lot of warmth, you can be that someone: trained, verified and supported, close to where you live.

  • Trained and supported
  • Police-verified, renewed every year
  • Choose the way you help
  • Close to where you live

The role

What you will do

Company, not chores. Small, regular kindnesses that add up to someone feeling wanted.

Keep someone company

Be Saathi to the seniors you look after: a friendly hello, a question about their day, one small thing to enjoy, in the language they love. By text, by voice note, or by tapping a button.

Bring them to people

Invite them to the antakshari evening, the morning walk or the chai circle in their own society, so their world gets bigger than their phone.

Notice when something is off

When someone goes quiet, you follow up with a call or a visit. You are not asked to be a nurse. You notice, you are kind, and you pass on what worries you.

Let them give back

Ask for a recipe, a song, a memory. A person who feels needed keeps talking, and the stories are a gift to you as well.

What is in it for you

More than a few hours given

You give your time to someone else. Here is what you can count on in return.

  • Someone who looks forward to you. A real friendship with people who are glad to hear from you, and who have decades of stories and wisdom to share.
  • Skills that stay with you. Prepare with an assessment built from real situations: how to listen, how to stay safe, and when to ask for help. It is useful with your own family long after.
  • A verified role you can show. A trained, police-verified identity that families can see, so they know who is who. Verification is renewed every year.
  • Backing, not box-ticking. A certification ladder and a named coordinator, so you always know who to ask and where you can grow. Not an errand list.
  • A circle of neighbours. Meet the people who keep a neighbourhood alive: other volunteers, society committees and families who are glad you are there.
  • Your language, your area. Tell us where you live and which languages you speak, and choose the way of helping that fits your life.

Two ways to help

Choose the way that fits your life

Some volunteers help from home, some from a short walk away. You can apply for the one that suits you.

In pilot

Tele Check-in Companion

Scheduled phone and WhatsApp check-ins with seniors who live alone, from wherever you are, and a clear way to raise a concern when you cannot reach them.

In pilot

Home Visit Companion

In-person company at a senior's home: conversation, light help getting around, medication reminders, and telling someone when anything looks clinical. Only where verified volunteers live nearby.

How it works

From applying to your first hello

  1. Apply

Create an account and tell us where you live, the languages you speak and the way of helping you prefer. It takes a few minutes.

  2. Take the assessment

An online assessment built from real situations. If it does not go well the first time, you get a window to prepare and try again.

  3. Background check

A police verification, so the seniors and families you meet can trust who is messaging them or knocking at the door.

  4. Get verified and begin

When both are done, the team approves you as a volunteer and you meet your first seniors. You can log in at any time to see where your application stands.

Who it suits

You might be a good Saathi if

  • You are kind, reliable and happy to listen more than you talk.
  • You speak the language a senior grew up with: Hindi, English or another.
  • You are comfortable on WhatsApp, or happy to learn.
  • You treat what a senior tells you as theirs: it stays with Saathi.

Plainly

What the role is not

  • Not an errand list. The role is company, not chores.
  • Not medical care. SaathiLife.Care never diagnoses or prescribes, and is not an ambulance.
  • Not a favour done once. A senior gets to know their Saathi, so being there matters.

Questions volunteers ask

Straight answers

Who can apply?

Anyone who is kind, reliable and happy to listen. You choose a way of helping and tell us where you live and the languages you speak. Everyone goes through the assessment and the background check before they begin.

Do I need a medical background?

No. SaathiLife.Care never diagnoses or prescribes, and it is not an ambulance. Your part is to be a warm presence, to notice, and to pass on what worries you.

Do I have to live near a senior?

The Tele Check-in track is by phone and WhatsApp. Home visits happen only where verified volunteers live nearby, so we ask where you live when you apply.

What happens after I apply?

You can log in at any time and open Certification to see where you are: the assessment, the background check and what comes next.

Will families see my details?

Families can see who their parent’s Saathi is, as a verified volunteer. What a senior says to you stays with their Saathi; families hear simple updates, never the conversation.

Ready to be someone’s Saathi?

One conversation can change a senior’s week. Start with an application, and we will walk you through the rest.
